Flagship Wines: Te Mata Estate Wine Tasting Fleetville Larder

Coleraine, Bullnose, Zara….the one thing they have in common is that they are the names given to the icon or ‘flagship’ wines made at Te Mata Estate, North Island New Zealand.

We are delighted that on September 23rd, Toby Buck from Te Mata will be with us to present and taste with us the range of  Te Mata’s top wines .

His background is as follows –

Toby grew up at Coleraine, planting vines and working in Te Mata’s cellars. As he kid, he travelled multiple times with his parents to meet agents, coopers, and winemakers in Europe and the UK. He’s worked most vintages at Te Mata, and in wineries from Bordeaux to Chile, Greece, Portugal, and Argentina.

He completed an MSc at Edinburgh and is a fan of a good book and a good wine. In 2014 he won the Katherine Mansfield short story award and, in 2019, NZ’s top essay prize. You can read his recent writing on regenerative farming practices at Te Mata here at JancisRobinson.com

Since 2016 he’s been responsible for sales in Te Mata’s domestic and international markets and hosting the wineries popular Vintage Showcase tastings. Now based in Amsterdam, he’s currently developing the winery’s presence across Europe, the UK, and Dubai.

It promises to be a fun and informative evening, especially as the excellent wines will be accompanied with delicious cheeses and charcuterie from Fleetville Larder, chosen by Ed to match the wines.

Date – Friday 23rd September 2022

Venue – Fleetville Larder

Time – 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Tickets – £30 per person, must be bought in advance

Cellar Door Wines: Organic Wine Tasting with Domaine Les Caizergues

Organic Wine Tasting with Domaine Les Caizergues

Domaines Les Caizergues is located in the foothills of the Cevennes mountain range just north of Montpellier. The estate benefits from having both a warm, sunny Mediterranean climate and an elevated position. This means that there are distinct differences between the average temperatures experienced during the day and those at night. As a result, the wines are wonderfully expressive and fresh. The land's heritage is both as a wine producer and as a centre for silk production in the region. The names of the wines and theDomaine's branding all bear witness to this.

Bob and Pat Middleton bought the Caizergues vineyard in 2017 with a view to further developing its potential. They have set about introducing modern and environmentally-friendly viticultural and vinicultural practices to the estate, always mindful of the importance of remaining true to its heritage and terroir.

Languedoc wine expert Anne Pestiaux represents the Middleton's organic wines here in the UK and will be presenting six Domaine Les Caizergues wines. The range includes a tradtional method sparkling, rosé, white and three reds. This will be our first in store tasting at our beautiful new store in the Hatfield House Stable Yard. Anne will share the story and history of the Domaine and explain their organic and sustainable farming principles.

Your ticket includes savoury snacks and cheese/ cured meat sharing platters from Katy at Wild Alban in Hatfield Old Town. If you have any dietary requirements or intolerances, please contact Penny or Geraldine before the event.

Roy Ayers Ubiquity ‘Mystic Voyage’ 45th Anniversary Tour plus special guests
Roy Ayers Ubiquity celebrate the 45th anniversary of their seminal 1975 album Mystic Voyage. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Mystic Voyage has been sampled countless times in Hip Hop over the years and was one of the foundations of the burgeoning Jazz-Funk scene which developed in the mid to late 1970’s.

The opening song from the album ‘Brother Green (The Disco King)’ was a huge tune in the Rare Groove clubs of the 1980’s. ‘Evolution’ was a dancefloor filler at clubs such as Dingwalls and ‘Life is Just a Moment (Part 2)’ has been sampled by The Jungle Brothers, Outlaw Posse, Fila Brazilia and more.

Roy Ayers started his career in the 1960’s joining the touring band of Herbie Mann. After going solo in the early ’70s he has released over 30 albums, composed the soundtrack for Coffy, a 1973 Blaxploitation film starring Pam Grier, toured and recorded with Fela Kuti, produced and released artists such as RAMP, Sylvia Striplin, Bobbi Humphrey, Eighties Ladies and is cited as a major influence by Pharrell Williams and Erykah Badu.
