The Makings of A Murderer

Thursday 23rd February 2023

Front Doors Open: 6.30pm | Auditorium: 7pm "| Show Starts: 7.30pm

Investigating The UK’s Most Notorious Serial Killers
Hosted by the Detective Who Brought Serial Killer PETER TOBIN to Justice

Join The Scottish Detective, David Swindle, for a chilling, thrilling, night at the theatre.
True crime fans, and those with a curious mind, can explore the cases, the circumstances and the detective’s perspective on what really went on, the early warning signs and the clues behind The Makings of a Murderer!

What makes a serial killer tick? What are the tell-tale signs? What really goes on behind the scenes?

Learn about the biggest British serial killers of all time – including Jack the Ripper, Peter Tobin, Harold Shipman, Peter Sutcliffe and ‘Killer Couples’ – Fred and Rose West and The Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

With more than 34 years as a senior detective, David shares his unique insight into the minds of the murderers, the famous cases that were never solved, and how the murderer got away with it, from someone on the inside.

David – whose ground-breaking Operation Anagram uncovered the activities of Tobin – paints an often-dark picture of how these monsters come to be in this gripping, fully-interactive, audio-visual first.

“Serial Killers are cunning, conniving, controlling, careful and – I hate to say it – clever,” says David. “They live apparently normal lives and get away with their crimes for years, until eventually detected.”

David also looks at the connections to the local area of the most famous murder cases.
The Makings of a Murderer! – a chilling, thrilling, night at the theatre not to be missed.

Fleetwood Bac: The Eric Morecambe Centre

Fleetwood bac Eric morecambe centre harpenden Hertfordshire

18th Feb 2023
Front Doors Open: 7pm | Auditorium: 7.30pm | Show Starts: 8pm

FLEETWOOD BAC are the world’s first and best Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band, endorsed by Mick Fleetwood himself, the only Mac tribute to authentically replicate the classic ‘Rumours’ line-up. Over the last few years they have received rave reviews from ‘The Stage’ newspaper, the U.K.s leading Fleetwood Mac fansites, the official Stevie Nicks website and from ecstatic audiences wherever the band played, wowing audiences as far afield as Dubai, St. Tropez, the Cayman Islands and Monte Carlo, and twice selling out the world-famous Minack Theatre in Cornwall.

The sound, the look, the mystical atmosphere and on-stage chemistry are all portrayed with the passion and energy that got the seal of approval from ‘Big Daddy’ Mick, and built up an excellent reputation amongst Mac fans through numerous tours, festival appearances, corporate events and TV and radio slots all over the U.K. and Europe.

The Fleetwood Bac show focuses on the ‘Rumours’ era of the band (still the 5th biggest-selling album of all time). It also features several songs from the Peter Green days, plus some of Stevie’s biggest solo hits, in either a theatrical 2-hour show, including costume-changes and an acoustic section, or a one-hour Greatest Hits Show, especially tailored for corporate events.

Songs featured (all UK and US hit singles) include: Dreams, Don’t Stop, Go Your Own Way, You Make Loving Fun, Tusk, Gypsy, Everywhere, Oh Well, Rhiannon, Little Lies, Black Magic Woman, Seven Wonders, Say You Love Me, Big Love, Oh Diane, Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around, Albatross, Sara, Man Of The World, Hold Me, Green Manalishi, Need Your Love So Bad, The Chain etc…

What people have said about Fleetwood Bac:

‘ Keep up the good work! Much luck.’ Mick Fleetwood

‘Loved the show, really enjoyed playing with you.’ Bob Brunning, original Fleetwood Mac bass player, and author of ‘Fleetwood Mac: Rumours And Lies’

Dick Whittington: International Man of Myth and Myster(ie)

Lecturer: Simon Whitehouse

Thurs 16th February at 10.30am

Interested in the Arts? Why not join our next lecture, at the Eric Morecambe Centre in Rothamsted Park. (£6 for one lecture or £45 for annual membership).

2023 marks the 600th anniversary of the death of the fabled Dick Whittington (c1354-1423).For many of us, Dick is simply a fictional character from a Ladybird book or the Christmas pantomime. In fact, Dick was very real, indeed one of the major movers and shakers of medieval London. In this lecture we separate the man from the myth as we follow in his footsteps through the streets that were not exactly ‘paved with gold…’. Apprenticed to a master mercer, Whittington went on to become one of the wealthiest and most successful textile merchants in the City, bankrolled no fewer than three medieval kings and as a result held the office of Lord Mayor of London no fewer than four times. And what of that famous feline companion; his cat? Well, the church that he built might just provide the answer but the lecture reveals all.

About The Arts Society Harpenden Area (TASHA)

Our 300 strong membership meet at the EMC on the 3rd Thursday of each month except April, August and December.
