Argentine Malbec and Tango Celebration at Hatfield House

Our Spring Wine Tasting 2023 will be all about Argentina...

Join us in the Stable Yard at Hatfield house for an entertaining evening of Argentine Wine, Empanadas and Tango. We will be celebrating Argentina's World Malbec Day as well as their spectacular World Cup win in December.

We will be hosting this event in our beautiful shop and just outside it, in the courtyard on Friday the 21st of April between 5:30 and 8:30pm. There will be 16 different Argentine wines to taste and buy by the glass, accompanied by delicious meat and vegetable Empanadas.

We have chosen this date in April to coincide with Malbec World Day which has been celebrated on the 17th of April every year since 1953, to commemorate the day when Argentine president Domingo Faustino Sarmiento made it part of his manifesto to turn around Argentina's wine industry. He procured the help of a French soil expert to find the best grapes to suit the Argentine Terroirs. 'Malbec World Day' translates from Spanish "Día Mundial del Malbec" which means "Malbec throughout the world". The name stuck and continues to bamboozle English speakers, and most have ended up calling it "World Malbec Day", or "Malbec Mondo".

Your ticket includes a glass of Argentine fizz on arrival, sampling of 16 red and white wines, an empanada and other Argentine street food snacks. The sensational Paula Duarte and Bruno Vandenabeele, award winning tango dancers, will entertain us throughout the evening. This is a walkabout tasting, with very little seating available.

Please contact Penny or Geraldine at Cellar Door Wines directly if you have any allergies or dietary requirements for the wine tasting. (E) sales@cellardoorwines.co.uk (T) 01727854488

In keeping with the theme of the evening, The Coach House Restaurant will be serving steak dinner. They are offering ticket holders to this event a 10% discount on their total bill as well as a free glass of Malbec with their meal. Book your table by emailing them directly. coachhousekitchen@compass-group.co.uk

If you have any questions, please call Cellar Door Wines +44 (0)1727 854 488

The Invaders Return Tour – Celebrating the Hall of Fame on Our Side of the Pond

“British Invasion” Legends The Zombies return home to celebrate their long-awaited induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

With over 330,000 votes in the public poll, The Zombies joined Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, and Roxy Music as the Hall of Fame’s 2019 Class, at a Ceremony taking place exactly 50 years to-the-day after their classic ‘Time of the Season’ first hit #1 on the charts.

Led by founding members, vocalist Colin Blunstone and keyboardist Rod Argent, alongside Steve Rodford on drums, guitarist Tom Toomey, and Søren Koch on bass, The Zombies are also in the studio recording the follow-up to their 2015 Billboard-charting album, Still Got That Hunger.

The band’s live performances, described by Rolling Stone as “absolutely triumphant”, take fans on a journey from their early 1960’s singles ‘She’s Not There’ and ‘Tell Her No’; their 1968 masterpiece Odessey & Oracle and favourites from the post-Zombies careers of Colin Blunstone and Argent … right to today with brand-new songs from their forthcoming album!

Thursday 30 March 2023 at 7.30pm
Friday 31 March 2023 at 7.30pm
Saturday 1 April 2023 at 2.30pm & 7.30pm

Bringing high-quality musical theatre to Harpenden for over 70 years and back by popular demand following its stunning performances of EVITA and Made in Dagenham, HMTC (Harpenden Musical Theatre Company) is thrilled to perform the sensational musical Follies at the fabulous Eric Morecambe Centre.

With the endless variety of Stephen Sondheim’s show music from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s and the time-travel trickery of its author James Goldman, Follies is a glamorous and fascinating peek into a bygone era, and a clear-eyed look at the transformation of relationships over time.

The time is 1971, and the theatrical impresario, Dimitri Weismann, is hosting a reunion of ex-Follies performers in their former theatre. In a sparkling atmosphere of bittersweet nostalgia, a wide variety of famous Follies beauties of years gone by, laugh, reminisce, brag, boast, express regret and perform the numbers which made them famous, mirrored by characters who play the memories of their younger selves. Amid the reminiscing, two couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present, coming face-to-face with the future.

Considered by many to be the greatest musical ever created, Follies is a sophisticated, compelling and heart wrenching masterpiece, featuring the showstopping songs “Losing My Mind”, “I’m Still Here” and” Broadway Baby” , as well as stunning tap and jazz dance numbers and a fabulous display of glamourous showgirl feathers and sequins.”
